The film I used was “Chungking Express”, directed by Wong Kar Wai. I used the 2nd story in the film, the unnamed Cop 633 (played by Tony Leung) is dealing with a breakup from a flight attendant (Valerie Chow). He meets Faye, the new girl at the snack bar (played by Faye Wong). She falls for him in secret, and frequently breaks into his apartment during the day to redecorate and “improve” his living situation. Gradually, her ploys help Cop 633 to cheer up, and he eventually realises that Faye likes him.

This is a short film about an unusual way to spend Valentine’s Day. It was shot on the grounds of our apartment complex, Bel Air on the Peak, in southwest Hong Kong. For whatever reason, the developers who designed and built this place thought it’d be classy to fill it with a lot of statues of naked women. Whatever the case, I hope you enjoy this film, which is also the 12th film in an on-going quest to make one short film per day. Please check out my other short films about life in Hong Kong.

This is one of the lifts at the only low-rent residential apartment site in Hong Kong with cone shape building design. The site is situated at the mid-levels area above Tai Hang in Causeway Bay which, apart from this site, only has private luxury housing built.

The elevator is one of two situated in one of the two circular blocks. Another two identical ones serve the other block, Block B, right next. They were installed in 2008 to replace the old Hitachi ones commissioned with the opening of the estate site in 1976. These old lifts served only levels G, 2, 5, 9, 13, 17, 21 and 25. The new ones as seen here call at all floors. There is a back door on 2/F for access to the car park.

The video here was taken shortly after the new lifts were put into service. Thus you can see wooden boards covered with cardboard mounted on the stainless steel car walls, which were later removed.

The outside floor indicator is generic and tailor-made to show special messages during times of restricted service: when necessary, access to designated floors is locked out for one of the elevators. In other words, certain floors can only be accessed via one lift and the other floors only by the other lift. One case is one serving 2/F and the odd-numberred floors and the other serving the even-numberred floors. Otherwise, one will be calling at the lower floors G, 1, 2-14 and the other at the higher floors G, 1, 2, 15-25.

On approaching the top floor in the video, you can clearly hear the sound of the propulsion motor as the car slows down. There is also a directional arrow display right above the communication system loudspeaker on the floor button panel. It is typical of Hitachi lifts in the 1970s-1980s. Thus it is probably a reusing of the one in the original old lift. On arrival there is a chime which sounds once on upward travel and two on downward travel.

電梯屬於兩部之一，位於兩幢圓形大廈的其中一幢內，另有兩部完全一樣的服務隔離的另一幢B座，它們都是在2008年安裝以更換於1976年屋邨入伙時啟用的日立舊機。這些舊升降機只前往G、2、5、9、13、17、21及25字樓，而這裏見到的新機則停所有樓層。2字樓有一個後門通往停車場。

這裏的片段是在新機投入服務之後不久拍攝，所以你可以見到不鏽鋼客卡牆身裝有用硬咭紙遮蓋的木板，但後來就被拆除。

機外樓層顯示器屬於通用式，而且是特別訂製以便在有服務管制時顯示特別訊息：當有需要時，其中一部電梯指定的停站被封鎖，換句話講，特定樓層只有一部升降機可前往而另外一部就只停其他樓層，其中一個方式是一部前往2字樓及奇數樓層而另外一部就前往偶數樓層，否則就是其中一部會停G、1、2-14的低層，另一部就停高層G、1、2、15-25。

在片段裏當抵達頂層時，你可清楚聽到客卡收慢時驅動機芯的聲音。在樓層按掣板上的通訊系統揚聲器的正上方有一個方向箭咀顯示器，屬於1970至1980年代典型的日立，所以它大有可能是將原有舊機的那一個循環再用。抵達時會有一個響聲，上行時響一下，下行時兩下。

Push is a 2009 American science fiction thriller film directed by Paul McGuigan. The film stars Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, Djimon Hounsou, and Camilla Belle. The plot centers around a group of Psychic people, as well as others with varying powers, who band together to attempt to take down a government agency that is using a dangerous drug to enhance the powers of Movers, Pushers, Watchers, Wipers etc.

The film has received generally negative reviews by critics on its original release with critics claiming the film to be “visually flashy but hyperkinetic and convoluted”.

[SPOILERS]

During the opening credits, a narrator (Dakota Fanning) tells us how those with abilites have been involved withe government since 1945. The opening scene shows two Movers, Nick Gant and his father on the run from the “Division” Realizing that escape is impossible, Nick’s father tells him of a vision he received from a Watcher; a girl will give him a flower, he is to do what she says in order to “save us all.” He then throws him through an air vent as Agent Henry Carver of Division arrives. Nick’s father then fights the Agents, taking out only two(on screen) before he is killed while Nick escapes.

Ten years later, the American Division is testing a potentialy deadly augmentation drug on a Pusher named Kira. While the test seems like a failiure, when the doctor moves in to check Kira’s pulse, she reveals herself to be alive(the one and only to ever live) and she escapes with the help of her enhanced abilities and interferance from a nearly-catatonic Watcher.

A week later, the scene changes to Hong Kong, where an adult Nick Gant (Chris Evans) is hiding from Division as an expatriate. Though he attempts to use his ability to make a living, he displays a poor skill at “moving” and is not successful at fixing a local dice game, leaving him in debt to a local Triad - which happens to be controlled by Bleeders bred by the defunct Chinese Division. After making his escape from the gamblers, he returns to his apartment and finds that the American Division has located him. Two Sniff Agents demand if he has seen a certain girl. One of them psychically reads about Nick’s actions in this apartment, and finds out he hasn’t yet met the girl.

Almost immediately following the encounter a young girl named Cassie Holmes (Dakota Fanning) comes to Nick’s apartment. Cassie lets herself into his apartment and explains that she is a Watcher. Nick objects to helping Cassie as they go to a resturant. Nick notices that Triads are around and he and Cassie attempt to escape. They are thwarted by the Triads and after a short pursuit, both are subdued. Nick allows Cassie to escape and as the Bleeders prepare to kill him, they are stopped the Watcher in the Triad’s group who states that without Nick, they find no chance of finding the girl. Cassie then brings Nick to a Sticher who heals his wounds because of a favor she owed to Cassie’s Mother. As Nick reawakens, Cassie fives him a lotus flower and he recalls the words of his Father, knowing now that he has no other choice than to help Cassie. They then go to a bar and Nick recruits an old Shifter friend to identify a vital clue from Cassie’s visions that will lead them to this girl, via a Sniff.

I took this video someday in July 2005 when I noticed the crazy weather outside my apartment. Soon I edited it into this video and added some music in it. According to the TV news, there were almost 10,000 lightning strikes within 2 hours that night. Crazy.

This is a very classic OTIS lift. Only the outside call button and the outside floor indicator are later modernized. Inside the car are entirely original fittings. The interior floor indicator is symbolic of OTIS elevators of the 1950s-1960s. Another example of such a lift model is a set of two OTIS lifts used in Healthy Village Estate － a low-rent apartment site in North Point, Hong Kong dating back to 1965 － before being modernized in the early 1990s to the current status. But those two had typical black OTIS buttons instead of white as shown in the video, and only served G/F, 4/F and 9/F.

There is no door operation button on the floor button panel, and pressing a floor button does not cause the door to close immediately. Thus it is probable that this lift was commissioned with manually operated landing doors, and was converted some time later to this automatic one. The starting and stopping of the car is one step, which is characteristic of old lift powertrains. This causes jerks as seen in the video.

This lift serves the even numbered floors of the building. Another one next to it serves the other floors.

這是一部非常古典的奧的斯升降機，只有外面啟動按鈕及外面樓層顯示器是後來被更新，機內完全是原裝的設備；裏面的樓層顯示器屬於1950至1960年代奧的斯電梯的標記。此升降機型號的另一例子，就是一式兩部用於健康村 － 一個位於香港北角的1965年廉租住宅屋苑 － 於1990年代初期被更新至現時樣子之前的奧的斯升降機，但那兩部機裝有典型的奧的斯黑色按鈕，有別於片段中的白色，而且只停地下、4字樓及9字樓。

樓層按鈕面板上並無機門開關按鈕，而且按下樓層按鈕未能令機門立即關上，所以好可能升降機投入服務時裝有手動的機門，及於一段時間後被改裝成這扇自動門。電梯的起動及停止是一次過的，屬於舊式升降機驅動機芯的特徵，這正如片段中所見導致震盪。

此機停大廈的偶數樓層，隔離的另一部則前往其他樓層。

Tay was spotted several times by fans, haha.
Then we had dinner with Darryl Ordell (formerly of the Broadway company of Rent).

Darryl and I went on to see Three Mo Tenors off-Broadway (which was simply spectacular) and Tay went home to get some rest.
